Indian Army Personnel Posted in J&K Can Now Study In Kashmir University Under Exchange Programme

The 18 courses offered will range from six months Certificate Courses to one-year Diploma courses and two-year Post Graduate Courses. The number of courses will be increased in the coming time. 

New Delhi: Indian Army soldiers posted in Jammu and Kashmir will now have a chance to obtain an educational degree during their service in the region from the Kashmir University. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the University of Kashmir (UoK) and Chinar Corps regarding the same. 

From the next academic year, Indian Army personnel posted in J&K would be able to enroll themselves for a Certificate Course, Diploma Course, or a Postgraduate Course through distance education mode. A total of 18 courses would be offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir.  

The courses that would be offered will range from six-month Certificate Courses to one-year Diploma Courses, and two-year Post Graduate Courses. The number of courses will be increased in the future. 

The subjects in which these courses will be offered are MA/ MSc (Maths), MA (English), MA (Urdu), MA (Education) under two-year courses and PG Diploma (Computer Applications), PG Dip (Web designing), PG Dip (Cyber Law), PG Dip (Tourism Management), etc in the Diploma category.

Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, said that the MoU will prove beneficial for the soldiers posted in Kashmir. "It was a historic day for the UoK, Srinagar, and Chinar Corps having established a long-term relationship for the provision of distance education courses to soldiers currently serving in Kashmir, '' said the VC. 

While acknowledging the academic achievements of the University of Kashmir, Lieutenant General D P Pandey, GOC 15th Corps Kashmir, said that this MoU will help in empowering soldiers of the Chinar Corps in a challenging environment. 

"Education is the foundation of the development of mankind and is the most powerful tool we have for nation-building. And the University of Kashmir, with its rich heritage, culture, and academia, will provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity for army personnel and civil defence employees of Chinar Corps to pursue higher educational qualifications, domain specialization, and subject matter expertise," Lt. Gen Pandey said.
