'Will Set Right If There Are Discordant Notes': Newly Appointed Karnataka BJP Chief Amid Buzz Over Disgruntlement

Vijayendra's remarks come in the wake of a buzz over some of the party leaders being disgruntled over his elevation.

New Delhi: Newly appointed BJP Karnataka chief BY Vijayendra on Sunday said he will “set right” if there are any discordant notes among the party over his appointment, news agency PTI reported. “If there are any minor differences, then my first priority will be to take the party forward with the blessings and guidance of seniors in the party. I will set right any discordant notes in the coming days,” PTI quoted Vijayendra as saying.

His remarks come in the wake of a buzz over some of the party leaders being disgruntled over his elevation.

Earlier this week, the saffron party appointed Vijayendra, the younger son of former CM and BJP veteran Yediyurappa, as its state unit president. Vijayendra has served as Karnataka BJP’s vice president.

It is to be noted that the BJP suffered a defeat to the grand old party in the state elections held earlier this year. Since then, the party hasn’t selected a leader of Opposition.

Vijayendra said there will be a BJP legislature party meeting later this week where the leader of opposition will be selected, PTI reported.

Speaking about “BJP’s rout” in the last elections after his father was “sidelined”, Vijayendra said there was a never a question of someone being “sidelined” by the party. He further said after stepping down from the state’s top post, Yediyurappa toured across Karnataka and worked with the BJP leaders to strengthen the party.

“We may have been defeated in the election, but keeping all that aside, we will put more effort to win all those seats we had won last time in the upcoming Lok Sabha election,” he told the news agency.

Earlier on Saturday, senior party leader CT Ravi, on being asked if BJP was engaging in “dynasty politics”, he made a cryptic remark, saying he, too, is “haunted by certain questions” but chose not to speak further.
