'Who Decided To Shift Rohingya Muslims To Flats?': Manish Sisodia Says HM Amit Shah Should Order Probe

The matter of shifting Rohingyas to EWS flats came to light when union minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted regarding refugees being moved under UN Refugee Convention 1951.

Rohingya Muslims EWS Flats Row: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister has asked Home Minister Amit Shah to order a probe to ascertain on whose instructions the decision to shift Rohingya Muslims to flats was taken. The Dy CM discarding off the alleged charges levelled against the Delhi government to shift Rohingyas to EWS flats said: "We didn't decide to shift Rohingya Muslims to flats, Centre also says it didn't. Then, who took the decision?"

"We got to know through newspapers that a scheme to provide flats to Rohingyas is going on. I asked the officers and got to know some meetings did take place where Central Govt officers were present," Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia said.

Manish Sisodia also took a shot at the Centre on bypassing the elected government: "When I asked for details of the meeting, I saw that it was mentioned in the files that for the approval by the Central Govt, it was being directly sent through CS to the LG. It was completely hidden from the elected Govt of Delhi, why this conspiracy?"

"If the Centre is against it then who was doing this? Union Minister Hardeep Puri had tweeted the same, appreciating the move. Have written to Home Minister Amit Shah urging him to clarify Centre's stand on shifting of Rohingya Muslims to EWS flats," Delhi Deputy CM said on Thursday.

The matter of shifting Rohingyas to EWS flats came to light when Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs on Wednesday Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted regarding refugees being moved under UN Refugee Convention 1951.

However, later on, the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a note stating that it has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi, which were mentioned in Hardeep Puri's tweet.

"Government of Delhi proposed to shift the Rohingyas to a new location. MHA has directed the Government of Delhi to ensure that the Rohingya illegal foreigners will continue at the present location at Kanchan Kunj, Madanpur Khadar as MHA has already taken up the matter of deportation of illegal foreigners with the concerned country through the Ministry of External Affairs," MHA statement further added.
