'When Anyone Talks Of Division...': Mamata Banerjee Amid Amit Shah's Bengal Visit

Amit Shah reached Kolkata on Monday night and at around 11 am this morning, reached Tagore’s ancestral home in Jorasanko Thakurbari.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that she will invoke words of Tagore when someone would talk about creating divisions. Her statement, on Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary, was a veiled attack on Union minister Amit Shah who visited the state a day before and paid tributes to the notable author.

“We will greet people in the words of Tagore. When anyone would speak of division we’ll tell them Tagore’s lines. We want to unite people, not divide, in fact we want development. Where the mind is free from fear, Tagore's words are narrated there. Tagore gave us leadership through his work,” she said.

“We need to walk on the path that Tagore told us. We should not think that teleprompters can be used to speak without information during elections or for elections,” she added.

A leader of the party’s Bengal unit said that Shah paid floral tributes to the polymath and garlanded his bust, as per ABP News report. The leader also said that the Union minister also visited the room where Tagore used to live.

“His great contribution to literature and art has shaped our rich cultural heritage and inspired many across the globe. May his teachings and philosophy continue to guide us all,” she added.
