West Bengal Minister, TMC MLA Face Mob Attack In Murshidabad. Factional Fight Suspected

The police officer informed that a meeting of the TMC was going on in a nearby place and those present there attacked the West Bengal minister and TMC MLA.

New Delhi: West Bengal cabinet minister Subrata Saha and a Trinamool Congress MLA were attacked by a mob in suspected factional fight of the party in Murshidabad on Wednesday evening.

A police officer informed that the minister of state for food processing and horticulture and Jiban Krishna Saha, the local MLA, escaped unhurt in the attack that took place in Burwan constituency, news agency PTI reported.

Subrata Saha and Jiban Krishna Saha were in the Bipra Sekhar locality meeting a family which lost six of its members in a recent road accident.

Shortly after they came out of the house, the mob threw bricks at the minister’s vehicle damaging its window glass.

“Police officers who were present there escorted them to safety. We have started an investigation into the matter,” the IPS officer said, as quoted by PTI.

The incident is suspected to be an outcome of a factional fight of the TMC, the agency reported.

At least 12 people were detained for their alleged involvement in the attack.

The police officer informed that a meeting of the party was going on in a nearby place and those present there attacked them.

“A group of anti-socials attacked us. I don't know who were they,” minister Subrata Saha told reporters.

Meanwhile, State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who hails from the district, termed the incident as a clear case of infighting within the TMC.

“The TMC's factional fights are taking place everywhere in the state. The police should look into them,” the Congress leader said.

The minister, otherwise unhurt, was treated for shock in a hospital. He was discharged later, police informed.
