Policy Of Divide & Rule Going On In India Not Welcome: Mamata's 'Jhoothe Acche Din' Jibe On Eid-ul-Fitr

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement comes as recent festivities on Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti were marred by communal clashes.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that "politics of isolation" is going on in the country as she attacked the Centre over BJP's promise of "acche din" by calling it "jhoothe acche din".

The Trinamool Congress supremo participated in the prayer for Eid-ul-Fitr held on a rain-drenched Red Road in Kolkata and urged the people gathered there not to be scared, but to be united for a better future.

"The situation in the country is not fine. The policy of divide and rule and politics of isolation going on in the country are not correct. Do not be scared and keep on fighting," Mamata Banerjee said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

"Neither I nor my party nor my government will do anything which will make you sad," she added, as she addressed the gathering of around 14,000 people for the Eid prayer.

The West Bengal Chief Minister said that what is being seen now is "jhoothe acche din (false good days)" and urged, "acche dine sabke saath le aayen (good days be brought with everyone coming together)."

The TMC supremo further stated that she has been empowered by the people and a sense of justice and peace to fight on.

"The kind of unity witnessed in West Bengal is not seen in any other part of the country," she claimed.

She on to quote the popular sher, "Khudi ko kar buland itna, ke har taqder se pehle, Khuda bande se khud pooche bata teri raza kya hai. (Make yourself so determinant that before writing your destiny, God asks you to say what you want)".

She also quoted the popular song 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram' popularised by Mahatma Gandhi: "Ishwar Allah tero naam sabko sanmati de Bhagwan".

The remarks come as recent festivities on Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti were marred by communal clashes.

Hours before Eid, incident of communal tension and stone-pelting has been reported in Jodhpur's Jalori Gate area wherein at least 4 policemen are reported to have been injured.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also called for unity and brotherhood as they extended wishes for Eid-ul-Fitr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Best wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this auspicious occasion enhance the spirit of togetherness and brotherhood in our society. May everyone be blessed with good health and prosperity."
