Weather Update: Light Rain Expected In Delhi Today, Respite From Heatwave Likely From June 15
Delhi has witnessed 25 days of severe heat this summer which is the highest since 2012. According to experts, a respite from the scorching heat is likely from June 15-16.
New Delhi: Delhiites on Monday saw a warm morning with the minimum temperature at 31.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. The weather department has predicted a cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or drizzle later in the day that can offer some respite from the scorching heat, news agency PTI reported. The national capital has recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and above on 25 days so far this summer season, the highest number of such days since 2012.
The maximum temperature today is likely to settle at 43 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was recorded at 42 per cent.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, warning of a heatwave in parts of Delhi on Monday.

According to experts, a respite from the scorching heat is likely from June 15-16.
Thundershowers, cloudy sky, gusty winds, and light rainfall are predicted in the coming weekend. By Saturday, the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory may dip to 38 degrees Celsius.
"Heat Wave Conditions likely to continue in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and southeast Uttar Pradesh during next two days and abatement thereafter," IMD tweeted.

The IMD uses four colour codes such as green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared), and red (take action) -- for weather warnings.
As previously mentioned, Delhi has witnessed 25 days of severe heat this summer which is the highest since 2012.
In 2012, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius or above on 30 days. The number of such days was 35 in 2010, the highest in the 1951-2022 period, PTI reported IMD data as informing.
Last year, the national capital had only six days of severe heat and three in 2020, the lowest since 1997 when only two such days were recorded.
Weather experts have attributed the heatwave spell to the lack of strong western disturbances and incessant hot and dry westerly winds.
The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base station, recorded a maximum temperature of 43.9 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal on Sunday.
