New Video Shows Air India Crash Survivor Walk Away From Wreckage As Fireball Erupts Behind Him

A new video surfaced showing Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, walking away from the wreckage as a fireball erupted behind him.

A video of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the lone survivor of the devastating Air India flight AI-171 crash that occurred moments after take-off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, has surfaced on social media. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route to London Gatwick, plunged into the hostel building of BJ Medical College, claiming 241 lives — including those of 10 cabin crew and two pilots.

The newly surfaced video, shared widely across social media platforms, captures Ramesh walking away from the wreckage as towering black smoke engulfs the background.

In visuals, Ramesh, dressed in a white t-shirt and holding a mobile phone, is seen emerging from the crash site in the Meghani Nagar locality. Bystanders rush towards him amid a cloud of confusion and rising panic. The footage depicts locals fleeing the scene while Ramesh glances back at the raging fireball behind him.

The crash, which occurred just 33 seconds after take-off, has been described by many as one of the deadliest in recent memory. The aircraft had barely gained altitude before it nosedived into the crowded residential area.

'I Stood Up And Ran': Vishwash Kumar Ramesh On Air India Crash

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the 40-year-old Indian-British national recounted the horror of the crash. “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he said.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital,” Ramesh recalled.

Another clip that circulated earlier had shown a man in a blood-stained shirt moving away from the smouldering debris — now believed to be Ramesh himself.

Vishwash was returning to the UK after visiting his family in India, accompanied by his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45. While Vishwash had been seated in 11A, close to an emergency exit, Ajay had been assigned a seat in another row.

The brothers had recently holidayed in Diu. Since the crash, Vishwash has been unable to trace Ajay. “He was travelling with me and I can’t find him anymore,” he said, as per HT.

Currently admitted to Civil Hospital in Asarwa, Ramesh is undergoing treatment for injuries to his chest, eyes and feet. He lives in London with his wife and child.
