UP: Eight fake call centres busted in Noida; used pop-ups and false Income Tax alerts to con people
As per reports a spurt has been witnessed in the number of fraud call centres operating out of Noida.
New Delhi: Noida Police raided a number of fake call centres in different areas of the city on Wednesday, in which as many as eight fraud companies were busted, revealing racket worth crores of rupees.
As per initial information, these call centres have conned thousands of people - both Indian and foreigners. Among foreigners they usually targeted those from the United States and Canada. Men behind the call centres tricked the clients by claiming to be staffs of popular IT companies.
These companies used different ways to trick people. They called people with a fake Income tax alert message and then extracted cash from them. They also used another trick by sending pop-up message on the systems of people which blocked the system. Then on the pretext of fixing it, they managed to steal money from the accounts of people.
A series of raid was conducted by Noida police and Cyber Cell in an operation led by Senior Superintendent of Police Ajaypal Sharma. The raids were conducted in the different sectors in Noida under the sector 58 police station limits, Phase 3 station limits, sector 20 police station limits, Expressway, Ecotek police station limits on eight fake calling centres .
As per reports a spurt has been witnessed in the number of fraud call centres operating out of Noida. Over the past 2 months, 20 such fake call centres have been busted by police.
