'UP-Bihar Ke Bhaiya' Remark: Complaint Lodged In Muzaffarpur Court Against Punjab CM Channi
Hashmi in his petition claimed that Channi’s comment has “put in danger” lives of Biharis living in Punjab.
Muzaffarpur: A complaint was lodged against Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in a court in Muzaffarpur on Thursday for his alleged “insulting” remark about “bhaiyas” from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Social activist Tamanna Hashmi filed the petition in the court of Muzaffarpur Chief Judicial Magistrate, PTI reported
Hashmi in his petition claimed that Channi’s comment has “put in danger” lives of Biharis living in Punjab.
The social activist has sought direction to the police for lodging an FIR against the Punja Chief Minister under sections 294, 294A, 504 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to causing deliberate insult to feelings.
The petition of Hashmi, who remains in news for litigation against high-profile people, is likely to be taken up for hearing in due course.
Earlier on Wednesday, Channi stoked a controversy by saying “do not let UP and Bihar ke bhaiya enter Punjab”.
“Priyanka Gandhi is Punjab's daughter-in-law, she is the bahu of Punjabis. Bhaiyas from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi cannot come here and rule. We will not allow UP bhaiyas to stray into Punjab,” he said at an election rally in Punjab.

The Congress leader has drawn flak from across the political spectrum for his remarks.
Channi, however, issued a clarification earlier in the day saying that his statement was misconstrued.
"My statement is being misconstrued. All migrant workers who came to Punjab till date, have toiled and taken it on path to development. We have only love for them, nobody can change it," news agency ANI quoted Channi as saying.
"I was talking about people who come from outside and create disruptions here. Punjab is as much of the people of UP-Bihar, Rajasthan and elsewhere, who come here and work, as much as it is ours. So, it is not right to present it in any other manner," he added.
