Harassment Of Unnao Rape Survivor, Family Not Without Protection From Those In Power: Priyanka

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said that the harassment of the Unnao rape survivor and her family was not possible without the protection of those in power.

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday, attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the Unnao rape case incident and the recent accident of the rape survivor and her kin in Raebareli, while at the same time declaring that the Congress party is committed to justice for her. Amid the uproar over the accident case, in which relatives of the survivor were killed, Priyanka alleged that those in power have extended protection to the harassers of the family. The Unnao rape incident and the harassment of the victim’s entire family was not possible without protection from those in power, she tweeted in Hindi. She said gradually the strands are now unraveling and the names of BJP leaders and the police cover-up are coming to the fore. Congress is determined to get justice to the family and we will fight this strongly, she said. The Centre on Tuesday handed over to the CBI the probe into the truck-car collision that left the Unnao rape victim critically injured, even as the Opposition stepped up its attack on the ruling BJP. “For God's sake, Mr. Prime Minister, divest this criminal and his brother of the political power your party is giving them. It's still not too late,” Priyanka tweeted on Monday. Sengar, already in jail, and nine others were booked for murder on Monday, a day after a speeding truck hit the car in which the victim was travelling in Rae Bareli, killing two relatives and leaving her and a lawyer critically injured.
