Unknown Militant Killed During Encounter In Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam; Search Operation Underway

One terrorist was killed in the encounter. An AK assault rifle and one pistol were recovered. The identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.

Srinagar: An unidentified militant was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. An AK-47 rifle and a pistol was recovered and the operation of the security forces against the terrorists is still underway.

According to media reports, security forces launched a search operation in the Mochuwa area of Budgam district following inputs about the presence of militants there. While the forces were scanning the area, the terrorists hiding there fired upon the forces. The security forces retaliated and eliminated one unknown terrorist.

"One terrorist was killed in the encounter. An AK assault rifle and one pistol were recovered from the slain terrorist," the official said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The official further said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained. Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off and search operation is going on.

The incident has come a day after two militants were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu region (ADGP) had said, "It is a group of three-four terrorists, two of whom are foreign terrorists." Singh said that the security forces were looking for a group of terrorists in the forest area of ​​the district for the past one month after receiving inputs from Thanamandi. The encounter started as soon as the terrorists reached the forest area.

Officials said that the terrorists started firing on the security forces after which forces retaliated. Rajouri Superintendent of Police, Sheema Nabi is monitoring the Kasba campaign.
