Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray Announces Rs 100 Crore Emergency Relief For Cyclone Affected Raigad District
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced emergency relief of Rs 100 crore for cyclone-affected Raigad district.
New Delhi: The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that Rs 100 crore will be given to cyclone-affected Raigad district as emergency relief. The district in the Konkan region of the state was the worst affected by the cyclone Nisarga which hit the Maharashtra coast on June 3.
Today, the CM visited Alibaug in Raigad where the cyclone had made landfall, to take stock of the devastation in the area. The minister said that Rs 100 crore assistance will be given and that this was not an 'aid package'.
“This assistance (of Rs 100 crore) will be given for emergency relief. This is just a beginning. Don't call it a package," Thackeray said in a report by PTI
According to reports, he said that that the immediate focus will be on repairing buildings and restoring telecommunication in the area. He also assured that farmers and fishermen who have suffered losses due to the cyclone will be provided relief. He said in the report, “We will not leave anyone in the lurch. Restoring electricity supply, telecommunications, and house repairs is our priority” He was also concerned about the impact of the rain on coronavirus and said that there is a possibility it might increase. "We have to stop other rain-related ailments as well. The minister was accompanied by his son and state minister of Tourism and Environment Aaditya Thackeray and MLA Aslam Sheikh. High-speed winds and heavy rain had lashed Alibaug when the cyclone made landfall. There were reports of rooftops breaking and tin sheds blowing away in the wind. Raigad was worst hit and followed by other districts like Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar before it fizzled out into a depression in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra.CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray surveyed the extent of the damage caused by #CycloneNisarga at Thal in Raigad District.
