'Third-Class Comment': Left Red-Faced By Leaked Chats, TMC Slams Kalyan Banerjee For Spats

Leaked WhatsApp chats revealed a spat between TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad, hitting the party's image. MP Saugata Roy slammed Banerjee for the language used during the argument.

The screenshots of a WhatsApp chat group have left the Trinamool Congress red-faced. On the backfoot now, TMC MP Saugata Roy confirmed that the spat indeed happened and that the language used in the chat was unfortunate. Roy also confirmed the alleged incident of a public quarrel between Kalyan Banerjee and a woman MP, also from the TMC, outside Parliament.

The screenshots of the 'spat', allegedly between Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad, were shared by BJP leader Amit Malviya. TMC MP Saugata Roy said, "The WhatsApp chats of the party being leaked is unfortunate. The language used by Kalyan Banerjee is unfortunate. I hope that the party leadership will take cognizance of the matter. Many of our party members wanted to complain to Mamata Banerjee, but whether they did or not, I don't know. Kalyan Banerjee misbehaved with a woman MP; she protested and revolted and then all the MPs went against Kalyan Banerjee..."

'Who Would Want To Join TMC Now?'

On the Kalyan Banerjee-Kirti Azad spat, Roy said the remarks by the former against the ex-cricketer were "third-class comments". Kalyan Banerjee allegedly accused Kirti Azad of indulging in "internal politics in the BJP", for which he was "kicked" out of the saffron party. "It was a third-class comment. Kirti Azad was a national cricketer. He was taken in by Mamata Banerjee [in the TMC] after he left the BJP. He won [elections] on his own. This is wrong. After this, who would want to join the party?"

However, in another interaction with news agency IANS, he said he wasn't aware if the chat indeed took place.
