Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau Cracks Down On Graft: 223 Arrested In 2024

In Telangana, the ACB secured 105 prosecution sanctions and filed charge sheets in numerous cases.

In a move to combat corruption, Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered 152 cases and detained 223 people. On the operations, ACB Director General Vijay Kumar on Tuesday released the data and emphasised the agency's increased efforts to crackdown corruption throughout the state.

Of the 223 persons detained in 2014, 159 were government officials. Similarly, of the registered incidents, 129 were trap cases in which officials were caught accepting bribes, as per a report on PTI. In 2024, the ACB registered 129 trap cases, seizing a total of Rs 82,78,000, of which Rs 64,80,000 was reimbursed to the complainants. Additionally, 11 cases were lodged against government employees for having disproportionate assets, resulting in the attachment of properties worth Rs 97.42 crore.

The ACB also dealt with 12 cases of criminal misconduct, arresting 18 accused. Besides these investigations, the Bureau conducted 11 regular inquiries into allegations of corruption and carried out 29 surprise checks at various offices, submitting detailed reports to the government.

ACB Telangana also resolved 26 pending cases in 2024, including one from 2018, three from 2019, five each from 2020 and 2021, and 12 from 2022, as reported by ANI.

The ACB secured 105 prosecution sanctions and filed charge sheets in numerous cases. The Bureau also closely monitored court proceedings and reportedly achieved convictions in 16 cases, reflecting an impressive 64% conviction rate.

On capacity building, the ACB organised extensive training for its personnel. Officers were trained to enhance their skills in drafting investigative reports, tracing financial transactions, and analyzing digital footprints. They were also educated on legal aspects, including landmark judgments by the Supreme Court and High Courts, ensuring robust investigations and prosecutions.

Meanwhile, the ACB observed 'Anti-Corruption Week' from December 3 to December 9, 2024, organising a range of awareness activities and programs. As part of the event, pamphlets and posters were distributed across all districts, and emphasis was placed on displaying the Citizen's Charter prominently in all government offices.
