Sudan Crisis: Mortal Remains Of Indian Victim Albert Augustine Brought Back To Kerala

The mortal remains of an Indian national named Albert Augustine, who succumbed to bullet injuries during the ongoing Sudan crisis, were brought back to India on Friday.

The mortal remains of an Indian citizen named Albert Augustine, who got hit by a stray bullet during the Sudan conflict and succumbed to injuries, were brought to India on Friday in a C-17 Airforce evacuation aircraft. Augustine was a resident of Kerala's Kannur. The Embassy of India in Khartoum tweeted a video of the mortal remains being carried in a C-17 Airforce evacuation aircraft. Earlier, Congress MP K Sudhakaran wrote to the Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while requesting him to bring the mortal remains of Augustine back to his family as soon as possible.

Congress MP K Sudhakaran wrote in his letter, "I am writing to you today with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency regarding one of my constituents, Shri. Albert Augustine, [PP: V7767408], permanent resident of Alavelil, Kakkadavu, Nellippara, Alakode in Kannur. He was working with the DAL group in Khartoum, Sudan when he tragically lost his life in the violent conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and rival para-military groups. Yesterday evening, he was struck by a stray bullet and passed away."

The letter further read, "This incident has left his family devastated and in a state of shock. Shri. Albert's wife and children are waiting for his mortal remains to be deported to their homeland of Kannur. As their representative, I am reaching out to you for urgent intervention in this matter to repatriate Shri. Albert's mortal remains as soon as possible. T urge you to take swift action in this regard and provide all necessary assistance to Shri. Albert's family in their time of grief."

The ongoing war between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has severely affected thousands.
