State Govt Hiding Things: NCPCR Chief Says Bengal 'Rape And Murder' Could Be 'Trafficking Case'

NCPCR chief slams Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal government, alleges the state government is hiding things in the case related to the alleged rape and murder of a Dalit girl.

Bengal Rape And Murder: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chief Priyank Kanoongo on Monday alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government is hiding things in the case pertaining to the death of a minor Dalit girl in the state. He said that proper investigation was not done into the matter and it could be a 'trafficking case'. Speaking to news agency ANI, he said that he met the doctors and claimed that there's a difference between the inputs given by doctors and those put forward by the police and family.

"Today we met the doctors. There is a difference between doctors' input, police input, and family input. There was no proper investigation done in the case. We will mention all these points in our report and submit it to the govt of India. The state govt is trying to hide things. This could be a trafficking case," he said, as quoted by ANI.

Kanoongo on Sunday said that they have met with the family members of the minor girl who was allegedly raped and murdered by a group of men in North Dinajpur earlier this week, news agency ANI reported.

Fresh violence erupted in Kaliaganj as locals staged protests against the incident on Saturday. Police had to resort to gas shells and charge batons to bring the situation under control, PTI reported.

Several shops and e-rickshaws were set on fire by the agitating mob, that demanded the arrest of those behind the incident. Roads were also blocked and stones were hurled at the police, as per the report.

The preliminary post-mortem report of the minor girl who was killed in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district earlier last week has revealed that death occurred due to some poisonous substance and there was no injury marks found on the body, news agency PTI quoted the Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Sana Akhtar as saying. Police further said that a 20-year-old man, identified as the prime accused in the case, was arrested.
