Cyclone Nivar: Orange Alert Issued In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana; Southern Railways Cancels 11 Pair Of Trains

The Nivar cyclone will impact coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry between November 24 and 26. 11 Pairs of trains have been cancelled by the railways.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the next 24 hours. States of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh are in preparation to brace up for the cyclone “Nivar” which is expected to hit the states by the afternoon of November 25. Cyclone Nivar is expected to cross the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on Wednesday (November 25). The NCMC headed by Rajeev Gauba, with aim of zero life loss issued directions to all the concerned departments and authorities. The official statement said the authorities should be prepared to restore normalcy as soon as possible in the affected areas. According to the Director-General of the IMD, the cyclone will impact coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry between November 24 and 26, i.e. Tuesday and Thursday. With the upcoming situation, the counseling for MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu has been postponed. While the southern railways in view of the situation have canceled 11 pairs of trains on different routes across the area that is expected to be affected by the cyclone. Train No.02868 Puducherry – Howrah Superfast Special partially cancelled between Puducherry and Villuppuram on 25th November, 2020Full refund shall be granted for trains (which have been) fully cancelled. For e-ticket holders, an automatic refund shall be granted. For tickets booked in railway counters, passengers shall take a refund from the railway counter on surrendering of tickets within 15 days of the scheduled departure of the train as against the regular norm of 3 days. The time limit has been relaxed in this regard. Existing refund rules will prevail for trains which are partially cancelled,” the Southern Railway said in a press release.
