Sopore encounter: Militant killed in gunfight with security forces

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Friday gunned down an unidentified militant in a gunfight that began after a raid on a suspected insurgent hideout in north Kashmir Sopore town, police said. A police officer said that security forces laid a cordon around a residential house in Sopore after a tip off that at least two militants were hiding there. The militants opened fire at the forces which was retaliated, ensuing into a fierce gunfight, the police officer said. One of the militants was killed and the exchange of fire was still on. "The militant holed up inside the house is firing at the security forces," the officer said.
