Scuffle Breaks Out Between AAP Workers, Cops During Protest Against Sanjay Singh's Arrest

A scuffle broke out between AAP workers and the police during a protest against the arrest of party leader Sanjay Singh.

The workers of the Aam Aadmi Party clashed with the police during a protest against the arrest of party MP Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy. The workers staged the protest around the AAP office at DDU Marg in the national capital and raised slogans against the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded Singh's release.

The party has alleged that the Enforcement Directorate arrested Singh as he raised issues related to the Adani Group in Parliament.

Special Commissioner of Police (CP) Law and Order Dependra Pathak while speaking to the media said that police were present in the area to maintain the law and order situation.

“Police are present here to maintain the law and order professionally. We are in communication with the organisers. We will make sure that law and order are maintained. We will try to contain the protestors”, Pathak was quoted by ANI.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday escorted AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh from his Delhi residence after arresting him in connection with the now-scrapped liquor policy case.

His was the second high-profile arrest in the case after former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. The arrest came hours after the ED conducted raids at the residence of the AAP Rajya Sabha MP in connection with the case.

On Thursday AAP accused the Centre of trying to silence its MP Sanjay Singh by arresting him and challenged the BJP-led Union government to make public any evidence they have against him.

Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Atishi claimed that over 500 officers of the ED and CBI conducted raids at various places linked to the AAP leaders in the last 15 months but “haven't found a single evidence” against them.

She said, “The ED officers raided every inch of Sanjay Singh's residence but couldn't find anything. They arrested him because he constantly raised issues of the Centre's corruption”.  Atishi further said that if there is any evidence against their leader, the Centre “should make it public”.

Meanwhile, BJP members visited the Rajghat following the arrest of AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh said, "This is the memorial of Gandhi ji who always opposed liquor. But Arvind Kejriwal didn't follow what he said. I think that with the inspiration and blessings of Gandhi Ji, this is happening. Liquor scam was unearthed and their (AAP) leaders are going to jail one after the other. The day is not far when the mastermind of liquor policy Arvind Kejriwal will also go to jail."
