Sanjay Singh resigns as AAP's in-charge of Punjab unit

New Delhi: After AAP MLA Alka Lamba on Wednesday offered to resign owning "responsibility" for party's poor show in the three wards she taken responsibility for Delhi municipal election polls, another party leader Sanjay Singh resigned as party's in-charge of Punjab unit. He has sent his resignation to Delhi CM and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal. There three wards in the assembly constituency of Alka Lamba were Civil Lines Ward No. 83, Chandni Chowk Ward No. 84 and the last Jama Masjid Ward No 85. ALSO READ: Ajay Maken resigns as Delhi Congress Chief after party's defeat AAP which was touted to give a competitive fight to BJP had decimated the latter by winning 67 of the 70 Delhi assembly polls. Alka on Tuesday had alleged that the BJP was trying to poach the MLAs of her party by luring them with offers. Voting for 270 of the total 272 municipal wards was held on April 23. Two wards where candidates expired, voting was cancelled. Riding on a Modi wave, the BJP on Wednesday headed for a clean sweep of the Delhi civic polls and was set to retain the three municipal corporations for the third term in a row, as predicted in exit polls. The AAP has alleged widespread tampering of EVMs in favour of the BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked the people of Delhi for bestowing their "faith" in BJP as it marched towards a clean sweep in the MCD polls. "Grateful to the people of Delhi for the faith in BJP," Prime Minister Modi tweeted. Modi also praised the Delhi party unit for the stupendous victory in the civic elections. In the high octane Delhi MCD election in which BJP has come out in flying colours with AAP second and Congress third, there are also many candidates whose election deposits are lost. After facing massive defeat in Delhi Municipal Elections, Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken resigned from his post on Wednesday. Accepting the defeat, Maken addressed a press briefing and said, “Take responsibility for defeat and I am going to resign as Delhi Congress President”. Maken also declared that he would remain a member of the party but wouldn’t take any post in the party. “For 1 year I will not take up any post in the party, will work as a party worker” Maken said.
