Samrala Sizzles At 47.2 Degrees As Scorching Heat Sweeps Punjab, Intense Heatwave To Batter These States
Delhi recorded 44.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest day temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius.
As relentless heat continues to prevail across several regions in India, Samrala in Punjab reeled at 47.2 degrees Celsius. Nuh in Haryana also sizzled at 46.6 degrees Celsius, while Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest day temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius, which was 8.7 notches above normal. On Sunday, heatwave conditions continued to grapple UP, with maximum temperature above 45 degrees at most places.
Delhi is also experiencing blistering heat, with a maximum temperature of 44.9 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday, which was six notches above normal, the India Meteorological Department stated.
The minimum temperature in Delhi was 5.7 notches above the season's average at 33.2 degrees Celsius. As of 5:30 PM, the humidity was recorded at 19 per cent in Delhi.
The Met office has forecast heat wave to severe heat wave with clear skies and warm night conditions along with strong surface winds on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
No Relief For Uttar Pradesh Anytime Soon
Heatwave conditions continued to grapple Uttar Pradesh with the maximum temperature staying above 45 degrees Celsius at most places on Sunday.
Prayagraj's temperature reached 8.7 notches above normal at 47.6 degrees Celsius.
According to Lucknow's Regional Meteorological Centre, the weather in Uttar Pradesh during the past 24 hours remained dry with severe heat and heat wave in most places.
There is no possibility of relief from the blistering heat anytime soon, the Regional Meteorological Centre forecast said.
"Jhansi recorded a maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius, Varanasi and Kanpur 46.8 degrees each, Agra 46.5 degrees, Sultanpur 46.4 degrees, Fatehpur 46.2 degrees, Fursatganj and Barabanki 46 degrees each, Orai 45.8 degrees and Lucknow 45.6 degrees," it said.
Heatwave conditions are likely to persist in almost all the places in UP, while some regions will experience severe heatwave conditions, during the next 24 hours.

Heatwave Sweeps Haryana & Punjab
Haryana and Punjab continued to suffer in the scorching heat on Sunday, with Samrala and Nuh reeling at 47.2 degrees and 46.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. Nuh was the hottest place in Haryana.
Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, was also battered by the sweltering heat, recording a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius.
Besides Nuh, other places in Haryana, including Faridabad and Sirsa, also experienced intense heatwave conditions. The maximum temperatures here touched 46.4 degrees and 46.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Other places where the temperature crossed the 45 degrees mark were Mahendragarh and Hisar that sweltered at 45.6 degrees Celsius and 45.2 degrees, respectively. Hot weather conditions also prevailed in Kurukshetra and Gurugram. While Gurugram recorded a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees, Kurukshetra recorded 44.1 degrees.
The Met office stated that Rohtak recorded a high of 45.2 degrees Celsius, while Ambala and Karnal registered 44.9 degrees and 43.6 degrees, respectively.
In Punjab, Bathinda and Pathankot reeled under intense heat at 46.3 and 46.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Other places in Punjab that were scorched by intense heat include, Amritsar (45.8 degrees), Patiala (45.5 degrees), Ludhiana (44.6 degrees), Ferozepur (44.3 degrees), and Gurdaspur (46 degrees).
However, there might be a slight respite from heat in store for Punjab as the Met office has forecast, light to moderate rain at isolated places on June 18. A few places in Haryana and Chandigarh will also likely receive light to moderate rain during June 19-2.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at isolated places on June 17 and at a few places during June 18 to 21 over Punjab, the Met office stated.
