'Manhandled' By Marshals In Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Breaks Down Talking About Her Ordeal
“They surrounded us in large numbers and I even fell down as they manhandled us while we were opposing the bill,” said Netam.
New Delhi: Congress Rajya Sabha MPs Chhaya Verma and Phulo Devi Netam broke down while addressing the media in Raipur on Wednesday on the ruckus in the Upper House earlier on August 11.
The duo alleged that they were manhandled by the male marshals in the Rajya Sabha.
“They surrounded us in large numbers and I even fell down as they manhandled us while we were opposing the bill,” said Netam.
The Rajya Sabha witnessed unruly behaviour on the last day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on August 11 as soon as the Constitution 127th Amendment Bill, 2021, was passed.

The Central government later moved the Insurance Bill while the Opposition demanded it be referred to a select committee.
While the bill was taken up, the MPs continued to protest and copies of the bill were torn.
The marshals were later called to prevent the agitating members from hampering passage of the bill.
Alleging heavy deployment of marshals to prevent their protests, the Opposition MPs later walked out of the Rajya Sabha.
Congress chief whip Jairam Ramesh had then said that the Insurance Amendment Bill to privatise insurance companies was passed in the house with a large force of security personnel present.
The Centre, however, hit back and blamed the Opposition for creating ruckus during the session.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi alleged that Opposition members manhandled marshals amid ruckus in the Rajya Sabha.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament concluded on August 11 with both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die.
The Monsoon Session, which began on July 19, was slated to go on till August 13.
