Red, blue beacons for VIPs banned from today in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: UP CM Yogi Adiytanath ordered an end to use of blue and red beacon lights in all vehicles with immediate effect. The missive order came a day after the central cabinet had taken the decision. However, army vehicles, ambulances, fire brigades and police vehicles will be exempted from this decision. According to newsagency IANS, a decision was also taken by Adityanath to curtail the security cover of politicians and others. Soon after the cabinet decision on Wednesday, cabinet ministers Siddharthanath Singh and Rita Bahuguna Joshi had removed their beacons from official vehicles. Meanwhile, the UP government has also asked the state’s IAS officers to submit their asset details by April 25. HOW THE POLITICAL FRATERNITY HAS REACTED:  PM Modi: Every Indian is a VIP and the culture of beacon should have gone long ago Goa CM Manohar Parrikar: "I believe that the VIP culture has to be reduced. Except for the PM and the President, there is no requirement of red beacon mounted cars." Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis: Maharashtra welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's step towards ending VIP culture by stopping the use of red beacons atop VIP vehicles. And to celebrate such epic step for strengthening our democracy, I have stopped using the RedBeacon atop my car. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani: We welcome the decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet today about the removal of red beacon lights from vehicles. This is a very good move to end the VIP culture from our system. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami Palaniswami personally removed the red beacon light from his car and said the action was taken following the union cabinet's decision in this regard. "From today the red beacon in my car is being removed," he said, adding, his cabinet colleagues will follow suit. Haryana CM ML Khattar: It is not that people will know you only when you have a beacon atop the vehicle. Such symbols don't matter. Mamata Banerjee, WB CM: I don't use the red beacon in my car. Senior BJD MP Tathagat Satpathy: The decision to remove Red Beacon is a joke. If serious, let the government remove all A to Z category security.
