Rajasthan Governor Writes To CM Ashok Gehlot, Asks "Who Is Responsible For My Safety?"

The Rajasthan Governor's raged response comes after Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his supporting MLAs protested inside the Raj Bhavan on Friday demanding an urgent assembly session.

Rajasthan Political Crisis: After Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and his supporting MLAs who were more than 100 in number, protested for 4 hours inside the Raj Bhavan demanding an assembly session, Governor Kalraj Mishra wrote a letter to the Chief Minister concerning his safety. Today, on July 24, I watched your remarks on electronic media, in which you tried to give political color to Constitutional requests and Constitutional decision-making. I am sad and hurt because of it," the Governor said. "If any letter/incident that comes from you, I have to make a decision consistent with the Constitution, and I have this right," he added. Reportedly last night, the Rajasthan government presented a paper to convene the session of the Assembly at very short notice. The paper was analysed and legal experts were consulted over it, according to the Governor’s Secretariat, news agency ANI reported. ALSO READ|Rajasthan Governor Refuses To Call Assembly Session; Gehlot Camp Protests Inside Raj Bhavan The date on which the assembly session is to be convened has not yet been mentioned in the Cabinet note and no approval has been given by the Cabinet for it. The Governor pointed out that the state government should ensure freedom and free movement of all MLAs. “There is no justification provided for holding of the session at short notice nor any agenda has been proposed for the same. A notice of 21 days is required for the session to be called according to normal procedure,” a statement from the Governor’s Secretariat said. Gehlot camp protested for 4 hours inside Raj Bhavan CM Gehlot, who is facing a rebellion from Sachin pilot and other 18 MLAs called a press conference on Friday afternoon and said that he wants the governor to call for an urgent assembly session and the Gehlot camp wants to prove the majority in the house. CM also accused that the governor is 'under some pressure for the top' so he is not making a decision. After speaking to the media, Gehlot and his supporters marched to Raj Bhavan and requested the governor to convene an assembly session from Monday but Kalraj Mishra refused to hold their demands citing increasing number of COVID cases in the city. Post that the supporters camped inside the Raj Bhavan and started raising slogans demanding justice and 'Gehlot Zindabad. The Gehlot camp reportedly protested for 4 hours.
