The Central Government has, however, dubbed the image as fake news while categorically stating there are no plans as of now about resuming of normal train services. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) too issued a tweet in this regard. Top officials of the Indian Railways said that a final call regarding resumption of normal train services would be taken after a proper discussion and talks with representatives of the various ministries.

Earlier, a post was doing rounds on social media suggesting the Indian Railways will cancel all trains from December 1 last year. Terming it to be fake, the government later rubbished the social media post.

In an endeavor to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the country, the Indian Railways had stopped the normal operations in March 2020.  The national transporter had cancelled over 160 trains in March last year due to low occupancy after the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Indian Railways, which is currently bearing loss due to the same, had earlier started festival special trains to clear the extra rush of passengers.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA) has urged the Maharashtra Government to allow all essential service providers, including those working in kirana and medical shops, to travel in local trains. With the number of coronavirus cases now declining in the country, it is expected the train services will gradually resume like pre-covid times.
