Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter Account Restored A Week After Suspension

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account has been unlocked a week after it was temporarily locked out for sharing images of the family of a nine-year-old alleged rape-and-murder victim in Delhi last week in violation of laws.
Rohan Gupta, Chairman of Congress' Social Media Department reportedly said, "Twitter unlocked all accounts linked to Congress, including that of Rahul Gandhi today morning. This is the win of the people of India."
Earlier today, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that he has raised the account locking issue with Twitter. “In my conversations w/Twitter, I took strong exception to the policy of automatically locking accounts, whether Rahul Gandhi’s or Ravi Shankar Prasad’s. If there is a violation of law, whether POSCO or copyright, it should suffice to withhold the offending tweet& issue notice to the user," he tweeted.
Not only Rahul Gandhi but various Congress leaders’ accounts and the party’s official handles were suspended after National Commission for Protection of Child Rights alleged violation of laws and demanded Twitter removal of the content and blocking of the account. Twitter also deemed the posts as a violation of its rules.
Fumed over blocked Twitter handle, Gandhi on Friday criticised the microblogging platform calling it "biased" and accused it of "listening to what the Government of the day says." In a video statement issued on Friday morning, the Congress leader said Democracy in under attack as people are not allowed to have an opinion and raise their voice.
"Our democracy is under attack. We are not allowed to speak in Parliament. The media is controlled. And I thought there was a ray of light where we could put what we thought on Twitter. But obviously, that's not the case," Rahul Gandhi said.
