Pushkar Singh Dhami is an MLA from the Khatima constituency in the Udham Singh Nagar district. Pushkar Dhami has been chosen as the next CM.
Dehradun: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami will be the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. The 2-time MLA has been chosen for the top post in the legislature meeting.
As scheduled, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and other BJP leaders reached State Headquarters in Dehradun for the Legislative Party meet to elect the new Uttarakhand Chief Minister.
Speaking to the media, Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he is glad that BJP has chosen him for the CM post and will dedicate himself to work for the development of the state.
Pushkar Singh Dhami is a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Khatima constituency in the Udham Singh Nagar district.
Pushkar Dhami's name was racing ahead among the candidates being considered for the top post. Former CM Tirath Singh Rawat also said that Pushkar Singh Dhami is a dedicated BJP worker so the party has shown its trust in him and elected him as the new CM.
Sources have revealed that Dhami will meet the governor today and will be sworn in as the new CM of Uttarakhand.
Interestingly, he has never held a ministerial post in the state cabinet and if he is indeed chosen by the saffron party, he will become the Chief Minister without ever having been a minister.
Dhami is said to have proved his dedication to the party with his work as the BJP state Youth Wing head.
Uttarakhand is undergoing another sudden political upheaval barely four months after Tirath Rawat took over as Chief Minister replacing Trivendra Singh Rawat who had to resign before the BJP government in the state completed 4 years in governance.
Tirath Singh Rawat on Friday resigned from the post citing constitutional compulsion as byelections could not be held in the state due to COVID-19.
"I have submitted my resignation to Governor. Given the constitutional crisis, I felt it was right for me to resign. I am thankful to the central leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for every opportunity they have given to me so far," he said elaborating the reason.
