Punjab Elections 2022: No CM Face For Congress, Will Contest Elections On Collective Leadership

The Congress had fought the previous election under the leadership of Capt. Amarinder Singh, but this time, the grand old party has decided to fight the elections under "collective leadership".

Congress party has decided to go ahead in the Punjab Elections 2022 without declaring anyone as their Chief Ministerial candidate. News agency ANI gave this information.

The Congress had fought the previous election under the leadership of Capt. Amarinder Singh, but this time, the grand old party has decided to fight the elections under "collective leadership".

The build-up to the elections hasn't been a rosy one for Congress. With capt. Amarinder Singh helping the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and with reports of a rift in the Punjab Congress, it is not going to be an easy election for the Congress party.

The INC held a top-level meeting with all MPs from Punjab at Sonia Gandhi's residence in Delhi on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Navjot Singh Sidhu, chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, campaign committee chairman Sunil Jakhar, AlCC secretary in charge of Punjab affairs Harish Chaudhary, secretary Chandan Yadav and joint secretary Krishna Allavaru. It was held to discuss the list of candidates who will be contesting on the 117 assembly seats in Punjab. Capt. Amarinder's wife, who is still part of the Congress, was missing from the meeting.

It is reported that Congress has come up with 'one family, one ticket' policy wherein the party will not give ticket to more than one person from a single family.

“The committee discussed all 117 assembly seats. A decision has been taken that not more than one ticket will be given to a family,” Chaudhary told journalists after the meeting.
