Punjab: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Rescued From Borewell

New Delhi: A six-year-old boy who had fallen into a 300-feet-deep borewell in the Gadriwala village of Hoshiarpur in Punjab died after a 9-hour-long joint operation on Sunday. According to officials, when several stray dogs began following Rithik Roshan while he was playing in a field, he climbed a borewell shaft, news agency PTI reported. The borewell shaft was covered with a jute bag, which could not support the boy's weight and came way, leading him to fall into the borewell. The youngster comes from a family of migrant workers.

The demise of Rithik Roshan is a distinct indication of a comparable shocking episode two years ago in the Sangrur region where two-year-old Fatehvir Singh had died after he fell into a 150-foot-deep deserted borewell.

Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans said the whole episode will be examined as after the Sangrur occurrence it was concluded that no borewell would be kept open in the future.

The nine-inch-wide borewell shaft was covered with a jute pack and couldn't endure the heaviness of the kid and yielded, making him fall into the borewell on Sunday morning.

Rithik was freed once again from the borewell in a joint activity did by the National Disaster Response Force, Army faculty and local people, said authorities.

He was taken to a nearby government hospital where the doctors proclaimed him dead.

Senior Medical Officer of nearby government clinic Dr Sunil Bhagat said the body had become blue and was stiff when it was brought to the medical clinic.

Nonetheless, doctors made resuscitation for more than half an hour and also administered various life-saving injections to him, but all their efforts were in vain.

The kid stalled out at the depth of 74 feet, where the pipe was seven-inch wide, said official sources.

The kid belonged to a family of migrant labourers.

A camera was put inside the borewell to screen the kid's condition, said the authorities, adding that high stream oxygen was likewise given through pipes.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann communicated misery over the passing. He announced to give Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the kid's loved ones.

"The administration and the Army helped a lot and tried their best in the rescue operation. When the child was taken out, it seemed that the child would survive but he died due to suffocation," said Punjab Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stated that he communicates daily with the district government.

Taking to Twitter, Punjab Chief Minister said, "Six-year-old boy Rithik fell into a borewell in Hoshiarpur. The district administration and local MLA were there and a rescue operation is underway. I am in constant touch with the administration."
