PM Modi Labels Congress As 'Parasitic Party', Mocks Rahul Gandhi With 'Sholay' Jibe In Lok Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, taking sharp jabs at the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi. PM Modi characterised the Congress as a "parasitic party". "The Congress has become a parasitic party in these polls, with its allies responsible for its victory in most of the 99 seats it won," PM Modi asserted.

He further explained, "This election is a message to their allies as well. From 2024 onwards, the Congress will be known as a parasitic party. A parasite feeds on the body it inhabits, and similarly, Congress consumes the votes of its allies. It flourishes at the expense of its alliance partners. Hence, Congress has become a parasitic Congress."

Citing specific statistics, PM Modi elaborated, "Wherever there was a direct contest between BJP and Congress, or where Congress was the major party and its allies had only 2-3 seats, Congress's strike rate was just 26%. However, in regions where Congress was the junior partner and clung to others, its strike rate was 50%. Of the 99 seats Congress won, most were because of their allies. This is why I say they are a parasitic Congress."

"In 16 states where Congress contested alone, its vote share dropped in this election. In Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, where Congress fought independently, they managed to win only 2 out of 64 seats. This clearly shows that Congress has become entirely dependent on its alliance partners to increase its seat tally. Without consuming their allies' votes, even winning these Lok Sabha seats would have been difficult," he added.

PM Modi's 'Sholay' Jibe At Congress & LoP Rahul Gandhi

Before this, PM Modi remarked, "This is the third biggest defeat in the history of Congress. It would have been better if Congress had accepted its defeat and respected the mandate of the people, but they are busy doing some 'Sirsasana' (headstand) and trying to establish in the minds of the citizens of India that they have defeated us... This is like trying to pacify a child."

Drawing a comparison to the 1984 elections, he noted, "Let's remember the elections of 1984. Following those elections, 10 Lok Sabha polls were held in this country, but Congress couldn't even cross the 250-mark even once. This time, the Congress somehow bagged 99 seats. This reminds me of a child telling everyone he received 99 marks, only for the teacher to clarify it was out of 543, not 100. There's no one to make that child understand he has set a new world record in failing."

PM Modi also referenced a scene from the film "Sholay" to mock Congress leaders' statements, "The statements of Congress leaders have surpassed the film 'Sholay'. Remember the 'Mausi' in 'Sholay'? 'Oh Mausi ji, we lost for the third time, but it's a moral victory, isn't it?' In 13 states, we have zero seats, 'but still, we're the heroes, right?' 'We have sunk the party, but at least the party is still breathing, isn't it?"

The Prime Minister urged Congress to respect the people's mandate, saying, "I would tell Congress to not drown the people's mandate in the celebration of a 'fake victory'. It should accept the people's mandate honestly."

Accusing Congress of spreading anarchy through its economic policies and divisive politics, PM Modi stated, "This is the nation's bad luck that Congress, which ruled for six decades, is busy spreading anarchy. They go to South and speak against people of North; they speak against South when they go to North. They have made all possible attempts to create a divide on the basis of language. The leaders who advocated separation of a part of the country, they were given Parliament ticket by the Congress."

"The Congress party is openly creating new narratives and spreading new plans every day to pit one caste against another. It was clearly announced from various platforms that if the desired result was not achieved, the country would be set on fire on June 4. People would gather, anarchy would be spread, and these appeals were made in large numbers. Spreading anarchy is their aim," he remarked.
