PM Modi To Address Farmers' Conference During Visit To Varanasi On June 18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi, first time after assuming the charge for the consecutive third term.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a one-day visit to his constituency of Varanasi after he secured a consecutive third term in office. Modi will return to his 'karmabhoomi' on June 18 where he will address a farmer's conference and later perform puja at Baba Shrikashi Vishwanath. He will also attend the aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat subsequently.

Party's Kashi region president, Dillip Patil said that this will be Modi's first visit to the holy Hindu town after the formation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government for the third time at the Centre, reported IANS. 

Navratan Rathi, Kashi region BJP media in-charge said that the farmers' conference may be held in Rohania or Sevapuri Assembly constituency and that the party's Kashi region unit is working to select a venue. 

As per the IANS report, office-bearers from BJP's Varanasi unit held a meeting at the party office in Gulab Bagh to discuss the plan for the preparations regarding the visit of the Prime Minister. 

Modi won the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat during the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls for a third time. He won the seat defeating his rival from the Congress party, Ajay Rai with a vote margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. Rai, who has been contesting and losing the last three elections against Modi claimed that his victory lay in the results.

As per the Election Commission data 6,12,970 votes were polled in favour of Modi from Varanasi constituency. 

Athar Jamal Lari from Bahujan Samaj Party finished third and remained nearly 5.8 lakh votes behind the Prime Minister.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA came back to the Centre for a third term clincing 293 of the 543 seats. The saffron party, however, fell short of the majority and bagged 240 seats and was left at the mercy of alliance partners, Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United) to form the government.
