All 3 Farm Laws Will Be Repealed, 'Could Not Convince The Farmers' | PM Modi's Top Quotes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the three controversial farm laws will be repealed. He also said that a committee will be formed to make agriculture-related decisions in the future.

New Delhi: In his address to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the three controversial farm laws will be repealed. The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming state elections in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh where farmers have been agitating against the laws.

Modi said that a committee will be formed to make agriculture-related decisions in the future.

The farmers had been protesting against the three laws ever since they were passed by the government last year.

The controversial laws were: The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.

Earlier, Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait had warned that the protest would be intensified with tractors marching into Delhi if the laws were not taken back by November 26, marking one year of the farmer protest.

Here are some highlights of the Prime Minister’s speech:

  • Today is the holy festival of Guru Nanak Dev. This is not the time to blame anyone. Today I have come to inform the whole country that it has been decided to withdraw three agricultural laws.
  • In my five decades of work, I have seen the difficulties faced by the farmers. When the nation made me the PM, I placed utmost importance on Krishi Vikas or farmers' development.
  • We worked on ‘beej, beema, bazar aur bachat’ (Seed, crop insurance, Market, and savings) with an overall approach.
  • We strengthened the rural market infrastructure and raised MSP as well.
  • Every year, with the help of 1 lakh crore agriculture infrastructure investment, facilities have been introduced for farmers.
  • The crop loan was doubled and will become Rs. 16,000 crore. Kisan credit card was also introduced.
  • The three farm laws were introduced for the development of the farmers. However, we could not convince the farmer groups despite our efforts. And only a section of the farmers were protesting. Yet we could not deliver our intentions to the farmers.
  • By the end of the month, the process for repealing the three farm laws will begin.
  • I request all the protesting farmers to go home, amongst their families, and begin afresh.
  • A committee will be formed to make decisions for a better future for the farmers. It will include central and state representatives, along with farmers, agricultural scientists, and agricultural economists.
