Drawing parallels with the year-long farmers’ movement at Delhi borders, Navjot Singh Sidhu said: “Farmers sat on protest at Delhi borders for over a year, but yesterday when PM had to wait for around 15 minutes he was troubled by it. Why these double standards?”.

“Modi Ji, you had said that you’ll double farmers’ income but you even took away what they had,” the Punjab Congress President alleged.

Meanwhile, sharing his response on the row over the security lapse, Congress MP Manish Tewari sought the matter to be investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court.

“The security of PM is governed by an active parliament. There is a very well laid out procedure as to how the PM & his immediate family has to be secured. If there has been a security lapse, it should be investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur was called off on Wednesday citing a major security lapse. The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes due to the road being blocked by some protesters, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated.

Row Over PM’s Security Lapse

BJP attacked the ruling Congress party in Punjab over the incident, while the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) asked for a report from the Punjab Government on the security breach.

“Such dereliction of security procedure in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed”: Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on Twitter

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi denied the allegations of any security breach saying that he did not have any information about the change of route.

“We had asked them (PMO) to discontinue the visit due to bad weather conditions and protests. We had no information of his (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) sudden route change. There was no security lapse during the PM visit,” Channi said on Wednesday addressing a press conference, as quoted by ANI.
