Boosting connectivity, PM Modi inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division along with the Charlapally New Terminal Station in Telangana. He also laid the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway.
The 742.1 kilometres long Jammu Railway Division comprises Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla (423 route km), Bhogpur-Sirwal-Pathankot (87.21 route km), Batala (excluding)-Pathankot (68.17 route km) and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar (narrow gauge section, 163.72 route km), this would significantly benefit Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding regions.
At present, the Indian Railways operates 17 zones with 68 divisions across the country. With the creation of this division, the Indian Railways will have 70 divisions under its 17 zones.
This project enhances connectivity to other parts of India. Additionally, it will generate employment opportunities, boost infrastructure development, promote tourism, and contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of the region.
Charlapally New Terminal Station in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana was developed as a new coaching terminal along with the provision of a second entry with a cost of around Rs 413 crore. This eco-friendly terminal will help alleviate congestion at the existing coaching terminals in the city, such as Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda.
The station building features six booking counters, separate waiting halls for men and women, an upper-class waiting area, and an executive lounge on the ground floor. The first floor includes a cafeteria, restaurant, and restroom facilities. All nine platforms will be equipped with escalators and lifts—seven lifts and six escalators—to ease passenger movement. Additionally, the station will have coach maintenance facilities to support the originating and terminating of trains.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway. This initiative is going to enhance connectivity in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and surrounding areas, fostering overall socio-economic development in the region.
