PM Modi Holds Virtual Meet With Cambodian Counterpart, Talks About Development Partnership, Quick Impact Projects
Highlighting the historical and civilisational connection between the two countries, PM Modi expressed happiness at India's involvement in the restoration of Angkor Wat and Preah Vihear temples.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual meeting with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen on Wednesday where they discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including capacity building programmes and quick impact projects under the framework of Mekong-Ganga Cooperation. The discussion further included the field of trade and investment, defence and security, development cooperation, human resource development, connectivity, post-pandemic economic recovery and ties between people.
According to a report by news agency PTI, they expressed satisfaction at the pace of bilateral cooperation, a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
As per the report, while Cambodian PM Hun Sen stressed the importance of the country’s relation with India, PM Modi emphasised the country’s valued role in India's Act East policy.
Highlighting the historical and civilisational connection between the two countries, PM Modi expressed happiness at India's involvement in the restoration of Angkor Wat and Preah Vihear temples in Cambodia that depict the cultural and linguistic link between the two countries, as per the MEA statement.
PM Hun Sen also extended his gratitude to India for providing 3.25 lakh doses of India-manufactured Covishield vaccine to Cambodia under the Quad Vaccine Initiative, the MEA said.
Both the Prime Ministers complimented each other on the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries that is being celebrated this year.
It is to be noted that as a part of these celebrations, PM Modi invited the King of Cambodia and the Queen Mother to visit India at a mutually convenient time.
The two leaders also exchanged their views on regional and global issues of shared interest, MEA added.
Notably, PM Modi congratulated Cambodia on assuming the chairmanship of ASEAN, and also assured India's full support and assistance to the country for success of its chairmanship.
