PM Modi Cuts Short Saudi Trip After Pahalgam Terror Attack, To Reach Delhi Early On Wednesday

PM Modi condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam and said that those behind the heinous act will be brought to justice. PM Modi will leave for India on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, has skipped the official dinner and has decided to cut short his trip to the West Asian nation, official sources said.

PM Modi will leave for India on Tuesday and will reach Delhi early on Wednesday, PTI quoted sources as saying. PM Modi also skipped the official dinner hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. He was also scheduled to meet Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman as part of the visit.

The prime minister condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam and said that those behind the heinous act will be brought to justice.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.”

Sending a stern warning to those behind the violence, PM Modi asserted, “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will only grow stronger.”

PM Modi also spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah following the attack and asked him to take all suitable steps to deal with the situation.

Terrorists opened fire at tourists in Pahalgam, which if often referred to as 'mini-Switzerland', on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people, mostly tourists. The lastest attack is the deadliest attack in the Kashmir valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. The 26 dead included two foreigners - from UAE and Nepal - and two locals, officials said.

The attack, which comes as US Vice President JD Vance is visiting India and just as the tourist and trekking season is picking up momentum, took place around 3 pm.

Baisaran, about six kilometres from the resort town of Pahalgam, is an expansive meadow ringed by dense pine forests and mountains and a favourite with visitors from across the country and the world.
