PM Modi Chairs Meeting To Review Vaccination Drive, Asks Officials To Speed Up Testing

During the meeting, which started at around 5 pm, the official shared reports on the progress of Covid-19 vaccination drive to the PM. 

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a meeting with several officials of the the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Health Secretary and NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul to review the ongoing vaccination drive in the country.

During the meeting, which started at around 5 pm, the official shared reports on the progress of Covid-19 vaccination drive to the PM.

According to reports, the Prime Minister directed officers to work with the states to ensure that the pace of testing does not go down as testing remains a very important weapon to track and contain rising infections in any region.

Officials present at the meeting also apprised the PM about the rising interest in CoWIN platform globally. Responding to which, PM Modi said that efforts should be made to help all countries, who have expressed interest, with India’s rich tech expertise in the form of CoWIN platform.

"PM was informed that 3.77 crore doses have been administered in the last 6 days which is more than the entire population of countries like Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Canada," the Prime Minister's Office said.

Further, PM underlined need to involve NGOs and other organisations in the vaccination drive, with officials stating that they are in touch with state governments to explore and implement innovative methods to reach people for vaccination, the PMO said.

Even since Centre took over vaccination drive relieving states from the responsibility, the inoculation process has gathered pace in the country and  government has even expressed confidence that it will have enough doses to fully vaccinate the country's adult population by December-end.

Meanwhile, India has broken all previous weekly vaccination records, delivering nearly 3.3 crore doses from June 21 to June 26. The previous high was 2.47 crore shots, which were given out in a week between April 3 and April 9.
