India Records Highest Weekly Vaccination With Over 3.3 Cr Jabs Administered In Last Five Days

India has shattered all previous weekly vaccination records, delivering nearly 3.3 crore doses from June 21 to June 26. The previous high was 2.47 crore shots, which were given out in a week between April 3 and April 9.

New Delhi: On June 21, India inoculated nearly 80 lakh individuals, kicking off a new phase of the immunisation campaign in which the Centre delivers free vaccines to states and union territories based on population, Covid-19 status, and other criteria.

With the week coming to an end, as per the figures released by the Union Health Ministry, India has shattered all previous weekly vaccination records, delivering nearly 3.3 crore doses from June 21 to June 26. The previous high was 2.47 crore shots, which were given out in a week between April 3 and April 9.

On Friday, Maharashtra became the primary state to manage administering over 3 crore COVID-19 vaccines to the public. Moreover, states like Karnataka, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat delivered between two crore to three crore dosages.

Several states took the International Yoga Day, which also marked the commencement of the free vaccination phase, as an opportunity and organised massive vaccination camps to inoculate people, resulting in a record high vaccination of over 80 lakh people in the country.

Several health and government professionals, while questioning the drive claimed that the current trajectory is unlikely to be maintained in the future. But despite the daily immunisation rate dipping from 80 lakh to almost 60 lakh, a new record for the greatest weekly vaccination rate has been set.

The government earlier mentioned that the number of vaccinations would increase significantly, as both Bharat Biotech and the SII are scaling up their vaccine manufacturing in preparation for a much larger production in the months of July and August. From its 25 per cent quota, private hospitals will begin purchasing vaccines from vaccine manufacturers as well.

Vaccine hesitancy in remote regions, as well as any shortage in the supply, according to specialists, might hinder the government’s efforts to meet their target of vaccinating all its inhabitants by the December 2021.
