On September 17, the prime minister will turn 73 years old.

On the occasion of 'Vishwakarma Jayanti', Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce a new initiative called "PM Vishwakarma" to assist artists, craftsmen, and others involved in traditional skills on Sunday, September 17, news agency PTI reported. On September 17, the prime minister will turn 73 years old. According to a statement, Modi has made it a priority to help individuals involved in traditional crafts not just monetarily, but also to maintain the age-old tradition, culture, and unique heritage alive and flourishing via local goods, art, and crafts.

The initiative, which Modi initially promised on Independence Day, will be entirely supported by the Union government with a Rs 13,000 crore investment. Prospective beneficiaries would be enrolled for free through common service centres utilising the biometric-based PM Vishwakarma site under the plan.

According to the statement, the scheme's targeted beneficiaries will receive recognition through the PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill upgradation involving basic and advanced training, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs lakh (first tranche) and 2 lakh (second tranche) at a 5% concessional interest rate, incentive for digital transactions, and marketing support.

The plan also intends to develop and maintain the "Guru-Shishya parampara," or family-based practise of ancient skills, according to the statement.

The scheme's primary goal is to improve the quality and reach of artisans' and craftspeople's goods and services, as well as to assure their integration into local and global value chains, according to the statement.

The initiative would help craftsmen and craftspeople in both rural and urban locations across India. Carpenters, boat builders, armourers, blacksmiths, hammer and tool kit makers, locksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, sculptors, stone-breakers, cobblers, masons, basket/mat/broom makers and coir weavers, doll and toy makers, barbers, garland makers, washer men; tailors, and fishing net makers will be included.
