Pakistani Drones Sighted Across J-K, Blasts Near Srinagar Airport: Top Points

Several Pakistani drones were sighted in parts of Jammu-Kashmir on Friday evening. Blasts were also heard near Srinagar airport and countermeasures were deployed to neutralise the suspected drone threat

Several Pakistani drones were sighted in parts of Jammu-Kashmir on Friday evening amid the ongoing tension between Delhi and Islamabad. The drones were sighted a day after India thwarted attempts by Pakistan military to attack Indian military installations using drones and missiles.

According to news agency PTI quoting Defence Officials, drones were sighted in Jammu, Samba and also in neighbouring Pathankot district in Punjab and they were being engaged. Explosions were heard in areas surrounding the Awantipora air base in south Kashmir.

News agency PTI quoting officials reported that the drones were also engaged in Udhampur and Nagrota of Jammu and Punjab. In a related development, heavy cross-border shelling started along the International Border in Suchetgarh and Ramgarh sectors of Jammu and Samba districts.

What Jammu-Kashmir CM Appealed To Residents?

Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a post on X, "Intermittent sounds of blasts, probably heavy artillery, can now be heard from where I am."

Abdullah also posted a picture of the city in darkness, captioning the post as, Blackout in Jammu now.

In another tweet, he appealed to everyone in and around Jammu to stay off the streets and stay at home.

"It’s my earnest appeal to everyone in & around Jammu please stay off the streets, stay at home or at the nearest place you can comfortably stay at for the next few hours. Ignore rumours, don’t spread unsubstantiated or unverified stories & we will get through this together," Abdullah posted on X.

Explosion Reported Near Srinagar Airport

According to ABP sources, blasts were heard near Srinagar airport on Friday evening as Pakistan launched drone attacks across border states. Countermeasures were deployed to neutralise the suspected drone threat, officials told PTI.

According to news agency PTI quoting officials, drone attacks on Srinagar airport and south Kashmir's Awantipora air base were thwarted. The officials added that drones were sighted in north Kashmir's Baramulla adding that the countermeasures had been initiated.

Civilian Flight Operations Suspened At Srinagar Airport

The civilian flight operations have now been suspended at the Srinagar International Airport till midnight of May 15 amid ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

“Please note that Srinagar Airport is closed up to 2359 hours of 14.05.2025 for flight operations,” an official of the Airports Authority of India said.
