Pakistan Sends Back Detained BSF Jawan PK Shaw To India After 20 Days

Shaw's wife Rajani had expressed concern that the heightened tension between the two countries may impact efforts to secure her husband's release.

Pakistan on Wednesday sent back BSF constable PK Sahu, who was detained by Pakistan Rangers after inadvertently crossing the international border. Shaw's wife, Rajani, had expressed concern that the heightened tension between the two countries may impact efforts to secure her husband's release.

The constable was handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Pakistan Rangers at the Attari-Wagha border at 10:30 am. The handover was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols, a BSF spokesperson said.

Shaw hails from the Harisabha area of Rishra in West Bengal's Hooghly.

Shaw, escorting a group of farmers near the border, stepped away to rest under a tree when he "unknowingly" slipped into Pakistani territory on April 23. He was quickly taken into custody by the Pakistan Rangers.

The Indian and Pakistani border forces held a flag meeting to negotiate his release.

The incident happened just a day after a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.

PK Shaw's Family Thanks Govt

A family member of Shaw thanked the Centre and the authorities for their efforts in safely bringing him back.

"We are very happy today. We thank the central government and the BSF authorities for their efforts in safely bringing him back. The past two weeks have been filled with sleepless nights and uncertainty for us. We were constantly worried about his well-being," a family member of Shaw told reporters.

"We are now eagerly waiting to speak to him and see him in person. Our prayers have finally been answered," he said.
