Tamil Nadu Tourists Recount Narrow Escape In Pahalgam Terror Attack
Following lunch, the tourists from Madurai, Tamil Nadu were on their way to Baisaran Valley when the incident occurred, resulting in what many described as a miraculous escape from harm.

A group of 68 tourists from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, had a narrow escape from a suspected terrorist attack near Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination known as 'mini Switzerland' for its dense pine forests. The group was merely five minutes away from reaching the picturesque spot when the calm was shattered by sudden gunfire, plunging the area into panic.
Tamil Nadu Tourists In Kashmir
The group had spent four blissful days touring various parts of the Kashmir Valley before arriving in Pahalgam on Tuesday morning, as per a report on Deccan Herald. Their travel itinerary included visits to all eight major tourist spots in the town, including the popular Pony Ride.
Following lunch, they were on their way to Baisaran Valley when the incident occurred, resulting in what many described as a miraculous escape from harm.
Escaping The Attack
One of the tourists recalled the terrifying moment, saying people came running toward them, yelling “vapas” — meaning “go back” — while frantically warning of the ongoing attack, reported India Today. It was moments later that the sound of gunfire confirmed their worst fears.
The locals reportedly informed the tourist about the chaos that unfolded as tourists and locals ran in all directions, shouting warnings and urging everyone nearby to find safety immediately. Among the Madurai group, one individual suffered chest pain upon hearing the commotion and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
After the ordeal, travel agents and security forces swiftly arranged for the Madurai tourists to be transported to Srinagar, ensuring their safety. The group shared that they had secured flight tickets for Wednesday evening and planned to return home to Tamil Nadu by Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu government officials confirmed that three tourists from the state had sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Anantnag district.
