After Operation Sindoor, FS Misri Details Pakistan's Pahalgam Attack Objective And India's Retaliation

Operation Sindoor Update: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the Pahalgam attack by The Resistance Front was aimed at isolating Jammu & Kashmir and stalling its growth.

In a press briefing on 'Operation Sindoor' on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described how the Pakistan-sponsored The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, was responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack. He also detailed why the cross-border terror attack was executed in Jammu & Kashmir.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said: "The April 22 attack by The Resistance Front was aimed at isolating Jammu and Kashmir and disrupting the vibrant tourism industry there and to make it a breeding ground for terrorists."

"The TRF team was identified based on intel sources and witnesses... Pakistan has become a haven for terrorists from across the world," Misri said.

"Pakistan failed to take action against the terror infrastructure within its territory despite a fortnight's deadline. Instead, it engaged in peddling falsehoods and hurling allegations. This is why India launched a focused, measured and non-escalatory retaliation," Misri said.

India Strikes Back: Operation Sindoor Delivers Justice After Pahalgam Attack

In the early hours of Wednesday, India launched a meticulously coordinated military offensive, 'Operation Sindoor', striking nine terror hubs deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attack last between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM on Wednesday.

This unprecedented tri-services operation, involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, was India's resolute response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including that of a serving Navy officer and a Nepali national.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is learnt to have personally christened the mission "Operation Sindoor", drawing on the powerful imagery of sindoor — the vermilion worn by married Hindu women. The name is a tribute to the widows left behind by the Pahalgam massacre.

Precision Strikes: Nine Terror Camps Targeted

The operation unfolded with surgical precision. Indian forces targeted nine terror-linked sites — four within Pakistan and five in PoK — belonging to terror outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The strikes hit major terror strongholds, including Jaish’s Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Lashkar's Markaz Taiba in Muridke, and Hizbul's Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot. Advanced weaponry, including SCALP cruise missiles and HAMMER precision bombs, ensured that the strikes were both devastating and highly focused.

'Measured, Focused, And Non-Escalatory'

Indian officials underscored that Operation Sindoor was "focused, measured, and non-escalatory", deliberately sparing Pakistani military installations and avoiding civilian casualties. All operations were launched from within Indian territory, reflecting both strategic restraint and a clear message: India will not tolerate cross-border terrorism, but will refrain from escalating any regional conflict.
