Operation Sindoor: India’s response to the deadly Pahalgam terror strike has come in the form of a swift and coordinated military operation across the border. Operation Sindoor: 10 Essential Facts

  • Strike Time: The operation kicked off at exactly 1:44 am on Wednesday, with precision missile launches by the Indian armed forces.
  • Who Took Part: This was a rare tri-service operation — units from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy worked together to execute the strikes.
  • Why It Happened: The action was a direct retaliation for the brutal Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead two weeks ago.
  • What Was Targeted: Terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and PoK was hit. “The forces hit terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed,” said the Army in a statement.
  • Weaponry Used: Loitering munitions — also known as Kamikaze drones — were reportedly used. These are designed to hover before diving into their target with an explosive payload.
  • Strategic Precision: The operation focused solely on terror camps. “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the Army added, clarifying that no Pakistani military facilities were involved.
  • High-Value Targets: Among the nine locations struck were the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, according to defence sources.
  • PM Modi’s Involvement: Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the strikes through the night, fulfilling his vow to respond decisively to the Pahalgam attack.
  • International Briefing: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed the US NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio soon after the operation.
  • More Details To Come: The Indian Army has said that a full briefing on Operation Sindoor will be shared later today, offering deeper insight into the mission’s execution and impact.
