'Not I, but investigation reports say this', Haryana CM Khattar clarifies after facing flak on controversial rape statement

Khattar, created controversy on Saturday at an event where he said that girls cry rape after they fall out with their partners over arguments.

New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar issued a clarification over his controversial statement on rape where he apparently blamed women for filing FIR against people they first hang out with, and said that the views were not his but were reported in investigations. “I said ‘between known’ not ‘consent’. These things are not said by me but these are facts that have come up in the investigations. These should be dealt with socially. Politics should not be done on this,”, said Khattar. Khattar created controversy on Saturday at an event where he said that the number of rape cases has not increased as they are not new to the society. He further added "80-90% rape cases occur between people who already know each other. Most of the time these incidents happen between people who usually hang-out together, but one-day after minor arguments, they file an FIR- saying that this person raped me." In the shocking video shared by ANI, he can be seen saying “Sabse badi chinta yeh hai ki yeh ghatnayein jo hain rape aur Chhed chhad ki, 80-90% jankaro ke beech mein hoti hai. Kafi samay ke liye ikhatte ghumte hain, ek din anban hogai, uss din utha karke FIR karwa dete hain ‘isne mujhe rape kiya’”. Reacting to Khattar’s statement, Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Anti-Women Mindset of Khattar Govt Exposed!”. On Twitter, he shared the video of Haryana Chief Minister’s speech and said “Blaming Women for complete failures to control rapes and gangrapes? Deplorable! CM should apologise”. Check here:
