NIA Files Chargesheet Against 2 PFI Members Under UAPA For ‘Committing Violent Acts’

Mohammad Ashif alias Asif, a resident of Kota and Sadiq Sarraf of Baran in Rajasthan have been charged under sections 120B, 153A of IPC and section 13, 17, 18, 18A & 18B of the UAPA 1967.

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency on Monday filed a chargesheet against two accused for “recruitment and radicalisation of impressionable Muslim youth for the PFI for committing violent acts,” said the federal anti-terror agency today. 

Mohammad Ashif alias Asif, a resident of Kota and Sadiq Sarraf of Baran in Rajasthan have been charged under sections 120B, 153A of Indian Penal Code and section 13, 17, 18, 18A & 18B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

As per the statement released by NIA, both the accused “are trained PFI members who were involved in recruitment and radicalisation of impressionable Muslim youth for the PFI for committing violent acts.

Both the accused were also found involved in organising Training Camps in handling of weapons and explosives, instigating PFI cadres to pick-up arms and raising funds for carrying out violent activities. They were also found actively promoting enmity between different religious groups in India and motivating the youth to resort to violent means to establish Islamic rule in the country, it added.

As per the statement, Asif and Sarraf were radicalising and brainwashing Muslim youths into believing that Islam was in danger in India and it was therefore essential for PFI cadres and the community to train themselves in use of arms for protecting  Islam and establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047.

They were also collecting funds in the name of Zakat (alms) for procurement of weapons and organising weapon and explosives training camps for PFI cadres, said the central agency.

Last month, the Madhya Pradesh Police had arrested four members of the banned outfit on charges of conspiring against the government and indulging in unlawful activities.

The three accused were identified as Gulam Rasool Shah (37), a resident of Dhar district, Sajid Khan aka Gulam Nabi (56), a resident of Indore, and Parvez Khan (30), from Aurangabad. 

They were charged under Indian Penal Code Sections 121A (conspiracy to wage war against government), 153B (assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), besides provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
