Union Minister Narayan Rane Gets Bail By Raigad Court Over Derogatory Remarks Against Uddhav Thackery

The Union Minister stirred controversy earlier on Monday with his remarks about slapping the Maharashtra Chief Minister for what he claimed his “ignorance of the year of India’s Independence”.

Mumbai: Raigad Magistrate Court has granted bail to Union Minister Narayan Rane in one of the FIRs filed against him for allegedly making derogatory statements against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The Union Minister stirred controversy earlier on Monday with his remarks about slapping the Maharashtra Chief Minister for what he claimed his “ignorance of the year of India’s Independence”.

Maharashtra Police earlier in the day arrested Rane for his 'slap slur' remark against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, as an aggressive Shiv Sena protested vociferously all over the state.

Rane was produced before a court at Mahad in Raigad district, some 160 km from Mumbai, after his arrest over controversial remarks. Rane was produced before magistrate Shaikhbabaso Patil by the Mahad police.

The FIR at Mahad was registered under IPC sections 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of public peace) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief).

Activists of the Shiv Sena's youth wing and the BJP clashed with each other near Union Minister's residence in Mumbai. Stones were pelted from both sides, following which police used cane-charge to disperse the agitators, an official told news agency PTI.

Heavy police security was deployed outside Rane's residence, the official said. Police registered three FIRs regarding the clash outside Rane's residence at Santacruz police station and Kasturba Marg police station, the official added.
