India Successfully Tests Third-Generation Anti-Tank Missile ‘Nag Mk-2’

Nag Mk 2 demonstrated its precision by accurately destroying targets at maximum and minimum ranges, validating its firing capabilities.

India successfully conducted the field test of the indigenously developed third-generation anti-tank guided missile ‘Nag Mark 2’ or Nag Mk 2, on Monday.  According to the Ministry of Defence, this is a third-generation 'Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile.'

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the trials at the Pokhran Field Range in the presence of senior officers of the Indian Army. During the trials, the missile demonstrated its precision by accurately destroying targets at maximum and minimum ranges, validating its firing capabilities.

The Defence experts said that the 'Nag Missile Carrier' (version 2) was also evaluated during the tests. With these successful trials, the complete weapon system is now ready for induction into the Indian army.

According to India Today, Developed by DRDO, the Nag Mark 2 missile is specifically designed to counter modern armoured threats. Its fire-and-forget technology allows operators to lock onto targets before launch, ensuring precise strikes even in complex battlefield environments.

According to India Today, following the trials, Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and industry for the successful field evaluation trials of the entire weapon system of Nag Mk 2.

Along with, the missile trials, the Nag Missile Carrier (NAMICA) Version 2 also successfully underwent field evaluations, marking a significant milestone in operationalising the complete weapon system, the ministry stated.

As per India Today, the major feature of the Nag Mk 2 missiles's third-generation fire-and-forget technology allows precision targeting with minimal operator intervention after its launch.

As per the report, it effectively neutralises modern armoured vehicles equipped with explosive reactive armour (ERA) and is integrated with NAMICA, improving battlefield mobility and deployment flexibility.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Samir V. Kamat also appreciated the efforts that went into making the missile ready for induction into the Indian Army.

Last year, India had done successful launch of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, Agni 4. The launch was carried out from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. The launch of 'Ballistic Missile, Agni 4' had successfully validated all operational and technical parameters. It was conducted under the aegis of Strategic Forces Command.
