Mysuru Doctor On Coronavirus Duty Kills Self, Colleagues Say 'Intense Work Pressure' Could Be The Reason

A 43-year old government doctor from Mysuru, Karnataka who was on coronavirus duty died of suicide. His colleagues have alleged that he took the tragic step due to work pressure.

New Delhi: A 43-year old government doctor who was working in coronavirus ward committed suicide in Mysuru, Karnataka. The colleagues of the Nanjangud Taluk Health Officer, Dr. SR Nagendra, have alleged that he took the drastic measure due to intense work pressure. The doctor was living away from his family in Alanahalli, to safeguard against the spread of the virus. According to a report by PTI, the police, found him hanging at his quarters. The state government has also announced an inquiry into the matter and according to a report by the Deccan Herald the family members will be provided with a compensation of Rs 30 lakh. The report also said that soon after the news of the death, health department officials, doctors and Nagendra's family members staged a flash protest in Nanjangud. The report also says that Zilla Panchayat CEO was putting pressure on the officer to meet targets in of rapid antigen tests for Covid-19. The Minister also said that being a doctor himself, he sympathized with medical workers in such a tough time.
 State Health Minister B Sriramulu has also mourned the doctor's death and in a tweet said that the case will be investigated.
  At present the total number of coronavirus cases in India has reached 29,05,824 including 6,92,028 active cases, 21,58,947 cured/discharged/migrated & 54,849 deaths. As of August 21, Karnataka has reported 82165  active cases.
